Saint John Paul II Catholic Church in Pagosa Springs, Colorado
Project Overview
Saint John Paul II Catholic Church in Pagosa Springs, Colorado, partnered with Scottish Stained Glass to design and install a series of new chapel windows honoring the four apostles. The goal was to create artwork that celebrated their legacy while harmonizing with the church’s newly built sanctuary extension. Because the chapel included windows of varying shapes and sizes, the project presented unique artistic and logistical challenges. Working within a limited budget, our team developed thoughtful design solutions that balanced beauty, scale, and affordability. After researching the lives and symbolism of each apostle, we incorporated meaningful elements—such as circular medallions, radiant sunburst motifs, and descending rays of light—to represent divine inspiration, spiritual guidance, and the enduring presence of faith within the chapel.

The chapel’s irregular window shapes required thoughtful planning to ensure each piece of artwork felt cohesive and visually balanced within the space. To stay within the church’s budget, our team simplified portions of the background glass while dedicating detailed hand-painting to the most significant symbolic elements. Soft, radiant tones were carefully selected to bring warmth, light, and reverence into the chapel—capturing the spirit of faith and devotion without overwhelming the architecture. The completed installation creates a serene and uplifting environment that beautifully complements both the new chapel addition and the existing sanctuary.
Notable Highlights
This project demonstrates how thoughtful design and budget-conscious planning can come together to create something truly exceptional. By centering the artwork around the four apostles and incorporating symbolic elements such as radiant sunbursts and descending heavenly light, Scottish Stained Glass transformed the chapel into a space that feels both intimate and profoundly sacred. Despite the challenges posed by scale and irregular window shapes, the finished installation beautifully reflects the church’s mission—to celebrate faith through light, simplicity, and meaningful symbolism.
