Stunning Church of The Hills Stained Glass Transformation

The Church of The Hills, located in Evergreen, Colorado, underwent a major restoration in 2018. This project showcased a beautiful blend of old and new craftsmanship. The aim was to create a colorful stained glass cross window while solving a practical issue: too much light blinding the congregation during services. The result is a breathtaking masterpiece that has amazed everyone with its beauty and function.

The Challenge

The original window at the Church of The Hills featured wooden cross divisions in structural steel frames that were key to the building’s design. Our challenge was to work within these constraints without removing the steel frames. We needed to preserve the church’s character and reduce the excessive light coming through the windows. After carefully removing the original glass, we strategically designed the new window to match the existing structural elements.

Crafting the Solution

The goal was clear: to create a stained glass window that features a vibrant cross while cutting down on glare. To achieve this, we chose fairly dark colors for the stained glass, providing an elegant solution to the light problem. Around the cross, we used beveled glass. This choice was crucial because the beveled glass not only stood out beautifully against the dark stained glass but also created stunning rainbows and prisms when hit by sunlight. The light effects inside the church are truly mesmerizing, as seen in the accompanying photographs.

The Impact

The transformation of the Church of The Hills window has had a profound impact on the congregation and visitors. The mix of dark colors and beveled glass not only solved the blinding light issue but also added a sacred beauty to the church’s interior. The rainbows and prisms created by the beveled glass add a divine touch, making the window a focal point of admiration and reflection. The way the light dances through the stained glass enhances the spiritual experience, creating a peaceful atmosphere for worship.

A Testament to Craftsmanship

This project stands as a testament to the artistry and ingenuity required in church restoration and new fabrication. The careful planning and creative problem-solving ensured that the new stained glass cross window would preserve the architectural integrity of the Church of The Hills while introducing a stunning element of beauty. The end result shows how modern craftsmanship can seamlessly enhance historic structures.
