Custom stained glass from start to finish: design, manufacture, build, install

If you buy premade stained glass from a store or online site, in many cases your finished product will pass through various different companies before it comes to a final rest in your home. This is simply not the case with Custom Stained Glass Houston. Our special, customer-focused custom design process starts with our specially trained designers, and ends with our (you guessed it, also specially trained) installers.

Our process is unique, and as a result our products are the highest quality possible. Our custom design process starts right in your own home, with a visit from one of our expert design team. Here’s how the process unfolds at this point:

1. Your designer will show you photos, samples, etc., to help you choose the custom designed windows for your home. You will choose a pattern, the colors of the glass you want, and the windows or doors where you want your stained glass installed.

2. Once the pattern is decided upon, our designer will take exacting measurements so your stained glass windows will be an exact fit.

3. Using CAD technology has been a huge advance in the custom stained glass design process, ensuring windows that are a perfect fit every time, and exactly conform to the pattern you chose or helped design. You will approve the pattern, and can even see a computer rendering of exactly how your finished windows will look!

4. The glass is ordered, if we don’t already have it in house. We source our materials from glass makers around the world, and only deal with the ones who sell the highest quality. Why use anything less?

5. Once all the supplies are in house, our builders take over. Unless your windows are the size of the Sistine Chapel’s ceiling, one builder will assemble your project, start to finish. This includes cutting each piece of glass by hand, to the exact size shown in the CAD blueprint, and assembling the entire window piece by piece. The lead caming that holds it all together is also cut by hand, and once the piece is assembled, it is treated to a special polishing technique that gives a gorgeous luster.

6. The last step of our custom design process is not really design oriented at all, it is the installation. Custom Stained Glass Houston has developed our own installation techniques, such as bonding the new stained glass panel to the inside of your existing window pane, ensuring that the stained glass art work is entirely protected from the elements. As a bonus, this gives a single paned window the insulating properties of a double! Caulking is applied around the edges, in a color that matches your windows, to ensure no dust or dirt gets in between the original pane of glass and the new stained glass.

If you have any questions about our custom design process for high quality stained glass windows, we would love to talk with you. And if you already know you are ready to proceed, why not give us a call today?
