Stained Glass Window Treatments Enhance any Renovation

A recent experience in a custom Houston home proved to me that things don’t last forever.  A home less than 12 years old was already going through a renovation, replacing all the windows in the home.  Why so soon for such a young home?  The faux mullions were falling in between the double panes of glass and there was no way to fix them, besides to replace the glass.

Although the large master bathroom window mullions had not fallen like the living room windows, the home owner decided that it would be best to replace that window and not wait until the mullions broke free.  Since the bathroom was going through a complete renovation, the home owner and interior designer decided to consider using stained glass window treatments when replacing the existing window.  Much to their satisfaction, they soon discovered all the possibilities and options they had available to get a stained glass window custom designed to meet the home owners style and coordinate with the interior designers selections.

The first decision was how to install the stained glass window.  At Custom Stained Glass Houston, there are several options when deciding on how to install stained glass windows.  In this situation it was decided to seal the stained glass window between the two panes of new glass in the existing window frame, since the glass needed to be pulled out anyways to remove the mullions.  This was the best option, but other install methods include applying the stained glass to the existing glass or hanging the stained glass in the existing window frame.

The second decision was coming up with a design that meets the homeowner’s request of privacy, and coordinated well with the interior designer’s concept for the renovation.  Since the interior designer had designed a tile plan with diamonds to in-case the garden tub under the window that was to receive the stained glass, we incorporated beveled diamonds into the stained glass window to make the entire room flowed.  In addition, becoming a piece of artwork in the bathroom yet provided the homeowner with the privacy she desired.

The final step was the selection of glass textures, styles, and colors.  Since the home owner had a transitional style and desired plenty of privacy, we used a combination of clear textured glass and beveled pieces to achieve the desired look and feel.  The use of heavy textures provided the privacy desired in any bathroom, and the beveled diamonds created extra light refraction in the room and blended well with the newly renovated bathroom.

Stained glass windows are excellent options to consider when renovating a home or replacing windows.  Since each stained glass panel is hand made to the exact requirements per window they can fit any standard or custom window you have in your home.  There are so many options when designing stained glass, that it makes it perfect for any renovation project.  The best part is that a window can be designed to look like it was an original to the home.  Stained glass windows are almost always considered an investment to any home, and the best part is they will last forever.
