Traditional stained glass with modern tools.

Traditional stained glass with modern tools.

The process of building stained glass windows and doors used to be done much differently than it is today. The basic process has survived for centuries now, but luckily for today’s stained glass lovers, various modern tools have made it more efficient, faster, more accurate, and perhaps even more durable. We’re talking about CAD design software. (Computer Assisted Design)

While the hand building process for stained glass is still very similar to how it was done over a century ago, here at Custom Stained Glass Houston, we have added certain processes to make the design process more things much faster and efficient. By using CAD technology we are able to design windows that fit perfectly every time. This way you will end up with an end product that will stand the test of time.

We love the CAD designs because they make life much simpler for the specially trained artisans who actually cut the glass pieces and assemble the stained glass panels. Here’s a brief overview of how it all works.

Stained Glass Houston

When you work with Custom Stained Glass Houston, we will send one of our design staff to your home or office to pick a stained glass design. You’ll work together, choosing the perfect style, pattern, glass, colors, etc. to complement your space. The designer will leave with the exact measurements of your windows (or whatever space you want to put the stained glass panels) and a sketch of your exact design.

At that point, the CAD designs get into the mix. The pattern or blueprint for your windows is rendered in exact detail by this computer software. This ensures the finished product will be both the exact pattern and the exact measurements of your window. This is particularly important because we bond the new stained glass panel to your existing window, so the sizing must be perfect. Even one quarter of an inch too big simply will not fit. It also provides a clear, full sized blueprint for the builder to follow as he or she cuts each piece of glass and assembles the panel by hand. It’s easy to check the panel as it’s being built and ensure it is coming out exactly as designed.

Another bonus of CAD designed stained glass is the ability to show you an exact, full color rendering of the finished product, to ensure it is just what you ordered. Through the magic of CAD design, you’ll be able to see what it will look like in your home before we ever even cut one piece of glass.

So CAD design is a wonderful innovation for both the stained glass builder and the stained glass customer – you!

Custom Stained Glass Houston invites you to contact us today and set up a no-cost consultation with our design staff. We can suggest areas of your home that would be truly enhanced with the addition of CAD designed stained glass, and help you find the exact right style and pattern for your home.
